First Floripa month? Lagoa da Conceição — the island's whole social engine in one walkable town. Surf mornings, bike everywhere? Campeche, and thank the flat streets daily. Best value with character? Barra da Lagoa. No car, maximum practicality? Centro, with weekend rentals for the beaches. Calm water for kids? The north — Canasvieiras or winter Jurerê. The January spectacle? Jurerê, booked by September, budget doubled. Undecided? Lagoa — it's where everyone ends up on Friday anyway.
The winter question (Jun–Aug stays): unheated Brazilian stock at 10–15°C nights is a real test — ask for reverse-cycle splits (ar quente), a heater, or a serious duvet, confirmed on camera. The summer calendar aloud: what does Dec–Feb cost, is New Year separate, and does a multi-month lock the shoulder rate — beach-zone hosts run nightly math in January unless the contract says otherwise. The Lagoa hill check: the lagoon's postcard slopes mean some "Lagoa" addresses are 15 uphill minutes from the cafés — ask the walking time to the town core, downhill and back up.
Lagoa da Conceição is the undisputed HQ: the lagoon-side town where cafés, coworks, restaurants and the island's social life concentrate, at $550–1,000 for furnished 1BRs. Campeche takes the flat-and-bikeable surf crowd; Centro the practical-value crowd; Jurerê the summer-scene budgets.
Increasingly the connoisseur's answer: dead-flat streets made for bikes, a serious surf beach at the end of them, new residential stock at $550–950, and Lagoa fifteen minutes away when you want the scene. The trade: quieter nights and a car-or-bike life — which is exactly why its residents chose it.
Only with the calendar read aloud: summer Jurerê is Brazil's beach-club spectacle at $1,200–1,600+ monthly (when monthly is even offered); winter Jurerê is a beautiful, half-closed avenue at $700–900. For a first stay, the east side (Lagoa, Campeche) delivers more island per dollar in every month but January.
Barra da Lagoa: the fishing village where the lagoon canal meets the ocean — walkable core, surf school row, honest restaurants, $400–700 furnished. Runner-up: Centro at $450–800 for those optimizing bridges-and-errands over beach-at-the-door.
