Barranquilla is not a city where every neighborhood works for visitors. Practically everything you want — restaurants, malls, safe evening walks, reliable taxis — concentrates in the northern quadrant between Calle 72 and the Circunvalar. Book in El Prado, Alto Prado, Villa Country, Riomar or near Buenavista and the city is easy; book far south to save $10 a night and you will spend it back in taxis and regret.

Weekend food trip: Alto Prado. Junior match at the Metropolitano: anywhere north — the stadium run is a 20-30 minute taxi regardless, so stay where the restaurants are.
